Each year universities all around New Zealand allow prospective students to get a taste of university life through a campus open day. Due to COVID-19 Massey University cancelled their in-person open day and instead approached Springload to create a website that recreates the open day experience and allows students from all over the country to experience the open day from the safety of their homes.

Through clear content and design we provided students with a pick their own path type experience. This allowed students to explore the different colleges and campuses at Massey and create their own schedule for the livestream on the day. This aimed to recreate the in-person open day experience where students can decide which presentations and campuses best align with where they want to take their future study. Students could also register for giveaways during the livestream on the site or ask questions during the event which were answered by alumni and current students via The Ambassador Platform integration.

We used Massey’s unique kowhaiwhai designed by Ariki Creative as a watermark to give the website depth and texture and align with their recent marketing campaign. We displayed key pieces of content in both English and te reo Māori, showing Massey’s commitment to te ao Māori and a Te Tiriti-led approach.

Over two days of the event more than 3000 students from 200 countries attended. The platform continued to be used by Massey for new remote events and campaigns for remote international students. In 2021 it was used for their February Orientation and they plan to use it for future Open Day events.
